We are two neurologists who opened a new practice in North
Vancouver three months ago. We decided from the start that we would go paperless,
ie electronic medical records (EMR). We were fortunate in not having to
convert years of paper files to EMR.
We were attracted to Plexia because it was created and is owned by a Vancouver neurologist, Dr. Charles Tai. We felt that he would understand the needs of fellow specialists. We particularly wanted to have a company that was "within shouting distance" and not on the other side of the country. We had demonstrations from Dr. Tai and were impressed with what we saw. A colleague who has installed the Plexia system in a multi-user neurology office also gave us a demo. We were impressed with what we saw and with her enthusiasm for the system. We did not have time to check other companies' products in any detail. Plexia took care of the whole process from advising us what hardware we needed, ordering and assembling it, and training us how to use their system. Then we learned by using, and by asking the Plexia team lots of questions. The system works well. It is quite user friendly. Many of the steps and protocols make intuitive sense. The patient scheduler program is excellent and flexible. Dipping in and out of patients' EMR is quick and easy, and it is fairly simple to find one's way around. The billing program is a major strong point. It is simple and fast, so much so that we enter our own billing daily ourselves and do not have to rely on someone else. We have quibbles about the prescription writing program, but expect to iron out these wrinkles with the helpful Plexia team. This is not a imutable package, but a system that is constantly being improved and upgraded by the Plexia team, often following suggestions by users like ourselves. Our final point is that Dr. Tai and his small team are very available,
helpful, open to suggestions and ready to make their system work well
for us. At present we can definitely say "so far, so good!" |
